THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 'BAD ENERGY'

As the seasons shift, you might feel a corresponding shift in your own energy.

If you're in the Northern hemisphere, you might start to appreciate being cosied up at home, craving heartier meals, earlier nights and a slower pace.

If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, you might be feeling a fizzy sort of awakening energy, as spring starts to work its magic.

Your energy is intertwined with the natural energy of the earth and its waxing and waning seasons; even if you're not outside much, you'll feel it on some level of your being.

This is because everything that exists is made up of energy, all vibrating at different frequencies.

We know this from the world of physics, and I often enjoy telling my Reiki students that there is no difference between them and the chair they're sitting on. They - and we - are all made of the same stuff - energy.

And it's helpful to remember this when you hear about 'good' and 'bad' energy - because there really is no such thing.

Energy is energy. It has no moral quality, it simply exists.

It prefers to be in flow, if possible, so when it gets stuck, or stagnates, you will likely find yourself ill, or upset, or injured, or impaired in some way.

And it likes to be balanced, so if it rushes frenetically or with great force, the result is often strong emotion, like anger or fear.

Or if it's kept in check or suppressed - especially over a long period of time - you might find it has an impact on your internal health. You might experience digestive issues, stiff joints, and the like.

But these imbalances and impairments are not caused by 'bad' energy, just stuck energy.

Think of a river - it also likes to be in flow. And just like a river, energy will always find a way to flow, because it never dies - it is always seeking direction and flow, and it will always find it.

When the river is blocked, and flow is impeded, the water becomes stagnant and unhealthy. Does this mean that water is bad? Of course not.

When the river is unblocked, and flow is restored, then the water runs pure and clear again, and becomes a life-giving stream once more.

The same is true for you.

If you have been living with a mental, physical or spiritual health issue for some time, the chances are that your energy is imbalanced or stuck, and all that's needed to start your return to health is to restore flow.

That can be done in myriad ways.

The act of putting physical pen to paper, without intentionally composing or editing your output, is a terrific way to restore flow.

Getting some healing from a Reiki or other energy practitioner is a great start - better yet, learn how to heal your own energy with Reiki, and keep yourself in flow.

Being outside in Nature is a kind of free energy healing that automatically 'updates your software' and keeps you in flow.

Movement and breath, no matter how small, restore balance and flow, always.

Can you think of any others? If you close your eyes, and imagine the river of your own energy flowing through your body, how does that feel to you?

What activities make that energy flow more freely?

What activities (or thoughts, or habits) impede your flow and make you feel stagnant?

And remember - you are seasonal. Just because energy needs to flow, doesn't mean you have to always be on the go.

That is hustle and burnout - the river rushing through narrow channels will break its banks.

There is a time for you to move and rush with quick-paced bubbling energy - and a time for you to rest and replenish, nourishing the slower pace of the gentle river bend in autumn and winter.

Only you know what feels right for you. If you tune in, and trust the wisdom of your own energy, you'll feel it.

This lovely post on Instagram from That Glasgow Witch puts it beautifully.

Find something to do - or not do - today that honours exactly what your energy needs - and let me know what you get up to!

Big love,
